Student outcomes are what students know and are able to do. They are the primary purpose schools and school boards exist. Traditionally, school boards and school board members may not focus on student outcomes; instead, they often find themselves caught up in management issues and inputs which should be truly left to the Superintendent as the educational expert.
What does that mean for YOU?
And by you we mean school board members, superintendents, parents, teachers, and members of the community. Everyone should care about how much your district's school board focuses on student outcomes, even if you don’t have children in the school system, given education in the community directly affects homeowners and businesses. In fact, the quality of a school system is shown to have a direct correlation to property values within a given community.
In this video that we created in partnership with Leadership ISD, we speak with a number of board members, superintendents, teachers and parents about this issue of why and how school boards can better focus on student outcomes. We also got to hear some of their first-hand experiences around how they work together and with the community drive change centered around three board behaviors proven to impact student outcomes.
